Orofacial Myofunctional & Articulation Therapy
As a homeschool mom, I pride myself on flexible scheduling and meeting your child where they feel the most comfortable-often times in the home although office and virtual options are also available. I strive to provide the best, evidence-based treatments to meet each and every individual need of my clients.
What is myo?
There are four main goals of orofacial myofunctional therapy.
1. Correct oral rest posture (lips closed, teeth slightly apart, tongue lightly suctioned to roof of the mouth, breath through the nose)
2. Establish nasal breathing
3. Improve oral phase of the swallow
4. Articulation and/or tongue thrust elimination
Why myo?
1. Correcting oral rest posture promotes optimal facial growth. Did you know that the tongue is the natural palate expander-giving more space for your teeth and more room to breathe?
2. Establishing nasal breathing improves the immune system by utilizing the body's natural air filters (the nose!) Nasal breathing can also reduce snoring and improve the quality of sleep.
3. Improving the oral phase of the swallow (i.e., chewing and control of chewed food within the mouth) improves digestion by making sure that food is properly broken down and cleared from the mouth efficiently.
4. Improving strength and coordination of the tongue and other oral motor structures will often carry over into improved articulation.

Does my child need an OROFACIAL MYOFUCNTIONAL evaluation?
This may be the next step if your child:
-breaths with their mouth open
-drools excessively
-snores and/or grinds their teeth
-has had speech services for many years with limited progress
-sticks their tongues between their front teeth while speaking or swallowing
-has had prolonged oral habits such as pacifier use or thumb/finger sucking
